Benefits of a RHIB

The benefits of a RHIB are easily noted in its performance and handling capabilities. Other attributes include versatility, stability, transportability, passenger comfort, extra flotation and safety.

Design and Construction Features

The Ocean Sprint RHIBs are deep-vee, glass-reinforced hulls to which a multi-compartment buoyancy collar is attached and and are fabricated by an infused resin construction method  using "E" glass and vinyl ester resins with all cores of PVC foam (no organic materials used).  The hull has a unique deep-vee design that flattens to a delta conic planing curve at the transom and a series of concave spray chines that run the length of the boat. Together, they generate effects that give the RHIB an uncharacteristically dry ride and superior performance in the roughest seas. Otech has modified the series to incorporate a molded deck and a quick collar replacement system.

The resin infusion process controls the material-to-resin ratio and repeatedly yields products with 1-25% reduction in weight. The finished components are stronger per unit weight than conventional hand lay-up and the process eliminates voids in the materials during production which can cause delamination.

The collar is removable with multi-chambers with separate fill and relief valves.  They are shaped by template exactly to fit the curves of the boat in both the horizontal directional and in the sheer of the boat.  The collar has a built-in bolt-rope system that slides into a track system built into the boat.  The system allows the collar to give on impact and expedites removal for repairs or replacement.

The inflatable collar makes the RHIB extremely versatile by providing high stability and the ability to fender off vessels without damage.  If needed, it permits the loading and transfer of injured with a lower risk of further injury.

The fabric is polyester based with a coating of Hypalon, a registered Trade Mark of DuPont. It is resistant to abrasion, fading and chemicals, including acids and fuels. It is easy to carry out repairs by simple preparation and gluing. Polyurethane and foam-filled collars are available upon request.

A full-height transom provides a high degree of structural strength that absorbs stress caused by outboards.

To assist our customers, Otech has developed a special engine box for the inboard/outboard models that opens in two directions allowing easy access to the engine for routine maintenance and repairs.

Another key feature of the RHIB is their stability. The more buoyancy you have the more load-carrying capacity you have.   The collar is the deciding factor that allows the RHIB to carry very heavy payloads in a safe and stable manner.

The hulls carry a 5-year warranty. I/O, outboard and jet propulsion packages are available along with optimal topside configurations customized to your specific needs.

Overall the Ocean Sprint RHIB exhibits outstanding rough water performance with excellent maneuverability and sea keeping abilities.  They are constructed with safety, reliability and longevity in mind.
