With the heat we’re experiencing in Minnesota this summer it’s hard to believe that football season is just around the corner. The Vikings are at training camp though, so we don’t have long to wait. With the season about to begin, we want to give a shout out to our Minnesota Vikings for the club’s efforts with their Planet Purple environmental initiative. The National Football Leagues has a Green Team that encourages football clubs to do their part to reduce, reuse and recycle. As part of that program, four years ago the Vikings introduced their Planet Purple initiative. This effort cover lots of programs that when examined together form a winning combination for responsible citizenship and environmental stewardship.Viktor the Viking gets involved in educating youth about conservation. He’s a great spokesperson for shutting off lights, recycling aluminum and plastic, and reusing plastic water bottles or refillable containers. On a larger scale, the Vikings have worked with Xcel Energy to purchase renewable wind energy to power Mall of America Field, and each fall the club hosts a Planet Purple week that features a variety of contests, clothing drives, and other efforts that help increase awareness of the importance of focusing on being green.Every little bit helps. So as you are patiently awaiting the start of the upcoming Viking season, remember to always reduce, reuse and recycle. Conserve energy and do your part to “think green.”If Ocean Tech can help your business or organization with recycling used electronics, please contact us for an individualized consultation and assistance in getting your program off the ground.
